August 2007 - Chairman's Chat

Greetings All!

I wanted to give you an update on what has been happening since our State Festival in April.

  • We had a wonderful time in Keystone with 274 ringers – thank you to everyone who attended.  We have compiled the feedback forms and are taking your suggestions for improvements into the plans for 2009.
  • We have a Chair-Elect!  We had an election in May and Anne Miller is our Chair-Elect for the 2007-2008 timeframe.  There is short intro letter from Anne at the end of the newsletter, and a longer resume posted on the web site – we’ll get her picture posted soon.  I am very excited about having Anne on the COAGEHR board, she has a wealth of experience in handbells and we will learn much from her.  Anne will be leading the planning for the 2009 state festival and already has some great ideas for it.
  • We have a new Southern District Representative – David Jordan has agreed to be the Representative for the Southern District taking over from Caroline Vose. Thank you to Caroline for her time on the Board and welcome to David as he steps in.
  • I attended the Area XI board meeting in June, we approved the Area XI ByLaws – there will be a vote by the Area XI membership later this year.  Then they will need to be sent to National for approval.
  • The Area XI Board conducted a site visit in Albuquerque at The Embassy Suites where the 2008 Area XI Festival will be held.  This is going to be a wonderful facility, the ballroom is spacious, there are several areas for workshops, and the rooms are very nice.  The festival is called ‘Catch the Dream’ and will be June 13-15, the guest clinician is Jason Wells.  For more information please check out the Area XI web site – there is a link from the COAGEHR web site - and then click on Area XI 2008 Festival Info.  Please watch the web site for the music list (it’s going to be great!) and plan with your choir to attend!
  • Please keep checking the web site for updates, I know the Metro and Northern districts are currently working on plans for Fall/Christmas events – I’m sure the Southern and Western districts are not far behind.
  • Also – if you have any classified ads to post on the COAGEHR web site please send them to me at queenstitch@hotmail.com – here is the most recent I have received, it is also posted on the website
    • Wanted--Handbell director for St. Timothy's Episcopal church in Centennial.  The group has 3 octaves of White Chapel Bells.  For more information call Lorrie Hart, 303-797-8255

Thanks!

Trudy

A Note From the New Chair-Elect

I’d like to introduce myself as the newest member of the CO-AGEHR, Chair Elect. After the festival at Keystone came to a close, the Board immediately began working on the next state festival. Although there is nothing to formally announce about it at this time, it was clear from your surveys that Keystone Resort is an excellent place to gather in Colorado. Meeting so many of you at that festival was truly a thrill, so here’s some information about me, hoping we’ll all get to know each other better in the next few years. Please feel free to call or drop me a note about the needs of your own bell ministry.

Now in Colorado to be an active 'granny' for 5 yr. old Miles, I’m ringing with the Rocky Mountain Ringers, and formerly with 'Bells In Motion', the past Missouri state AGEHR chair, past AGEHR Area VIII Secretary, formerly a 18-year AGEHR Missouri state board member, graduate of the AGEHR Master class in "Score Study-Preparation and Conducting," AGEHR mentor, handbell choir director (5 bell choirs) at Webster Groves Presbyterian Church 12 yrs., co-founder of the Gateway BellFest, adjudicator, clinician, author, composer, soloist, and accompanist. I’ve rung for 30 years and have directed for 17, playing at hundreds of community events, schools and churches. I work at the University of Colorado Foundation as an Office Administrator, enjoy jazz, live theater and outdoor activities.
